Research raises sustainability issues

02/08/2011

The results of our roundtable discussion on the application of sustainability legislation to events have now been published in the Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes journal in its 2011 sustainable event management edition, edited by James Musgrave of Leeds Metropolitan University.

Involving a mixed group of event managers and sustainability experts, the panel discussed the current legislative frameworks affecting the event industry including waste regulations and the CRC Energy Efficiency scheme, and came up with some interesting findings.

Our research found that for event managers to be able to successfully apply sustainability legislation and governmental frameworks to their events, it takes strong relationships and partnership working across the supply chain, from clients to suppliers.  Without all parties working together towards a common objective, conflicting priorities will always stand in the way of sustainable events.
