Lacrosse Fever Hits Manchester

USA Lacrosse Player

30 teams from Argentina to Wales took part in the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships – the biggest championships to date!

Held at the University of Manchester’s Armitage Centre Grounds, the tournament ran from the 15th to the 24th of July.  For 9 days the spotlight was on Manchester, as the event attracted media attention from Channel 4, BBC and The Independent, as well as live match broadcasts on ESPN in America.

Working with the English Lacrosse Association and liaising with local council, police and University staff, we transformed the stadium into a world-class Lacrosse venue with ticket offices and stadium seating, and a PA system for the main stadium.  We were also responsible for health and safety on site, providing first aid, fencing, toilets and security services.

During the installation of the event, 600 primary and secondary school children were on site learning how to play Lacrosse.

The tournament 900 Championship athletes were on site, as well as about 1000 festival players from Grand Masters, College and club teams who were competing in non-championship tournaments.  As well as the athletes, we had up to around 5000 spectators on site each day and we were on several occasions pelted by thunderous downpours of rain. However, play went on!

Passionate fans enjoying the 2010 Lacrosse World Championships

We also created a website for the tournament to allow organisers to upload news stories and YouTube videos of the latest matches as well as allowing fans to check fixtures, find location details and purchase merchandise.

Our stylists created a VIP area worthy of world class athletes too. Using silhouette wall vinyls of Lacrosse players, professional framed match photography, lacrosse equipment mounted on plinths, and green Astroturf accents teamed with a black and white referee’s uniform colour theme.

The event was a great success and enjoyed equally by fans and players alike, and the client was really happy with the entire experience.
